Drink Deeply

“Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.’”  John 7:37

Jesus knows that our souls are thirsty.  Living in our world can be like hiking through the desert. If we don’t get enough water, we won’t make it.  Too many of us are hiking with an empty canteen.  We fill it up occasionally (perhaps by going to church) or we try satisfying our thirst with other things that only leave us feeling empty.

Jesus invites us to come to him daily and have our thirst truly satisfied.  He promises that the Holy Spirit will meet us as we meditate on the Word of God.  In fact, Psalm 1 says that those “who delight on the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night are like trees planted by streams of water”.  These trees don’t just survive the hot, dry seasons – they thrive, stay green, and produce fruit.  Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Many of us want to meet with God daily through prayer and Scripture study, but we struggle to find the time.  We wake up in the morning and are immediately hit by all that we have to do.  “Thirsty” is designed to make it a little easier to get a deep drink of God’s life giving water every day so that we can grow and bear fruit as followers of Jesus.

“Thirsty” provides a passage of scripture every day delivered to your computer or phone.  No more trying the figure out what to read or keeping track of where you are on a plan.  If you stick with “Thirsty” for three years, you will have read through the entire Bible.

Each passage is accompanied by three study questions.  Rather than a commentary that tells you what the passage means, these questions help you to figure it out for yourself and connect it to your life.  The questions are provided by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and written with college students in mind.  They are written by a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-national group of campus ministers and students.  Every writer loves Jesus and His Word, but they come from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, making for a richer study.

By participating in “Thirsty” you will be studying the Bible in community with students and InterVarsity staff from all over North America.  If you’d like to discuss the passage or share how your life is being impacted by it, there is room on the Thirsty blog site and facebook page to interact. Whether you are studying the Bible on your phone while riding the train or on your computer between classes or during your lunch break, you can connect with other university students and enjoy learning from each other.

You can use “Thirsty” anytime, anywhere.  Sign up to drink from God’s Word every day.  Feel free to share “Thirsty” with your friends near and far.  Let’s thrive in this dusty world together by drinking deeply of the only water that can truly satisfy.
